Off-leash capabilities are the icing atop of all your obedience training. Mastering commands off-leash builds a strong partnership between dog and owner, and can be useful in a variety of situations. Whether your dog is a working dog or not, we feel off-leash training is a great insurance policy that every dog owner should have. For instance, if your dog slips its collar while walking on a busy street you can get their attention and call them back to you. Owners can also give their dogs the freedom to enjoy a hike off-leash confident that they can recall their dog should they meet any wild animals or other hikers.
How Our Off-Leash Training Program Works
For off-leash control, we use the remote collar to communicate with the dog from a distance. Our remote collar method is communication-based, not corrective. In order to begin training your dog off-leash, we require the dog to be at least 6 months old and have all of their basics commands down 100%, without food. We also require a minimum commitment of 5 sessions for this type of advanced obedience training.
The process of integrating the remote collar is tedious and we always recommend working directly with a professional. Remote collar training is a great option to solidify your dog’s recall and we also frequently use it for behavioral modification training. As always, there is consistency and follow-up the owner needs to do after any training. We ALWAYS recommend owners using a long line with their dog for several weeks before going completely off-leash.
